Day 1: Berlin - Flight included

It's finally here. I woke up yesterday morning excited but aprehensive. Months of preparation and building of suspense would finally all come to the big day, flying out.

As you can see, Economy is actually quite pleasent.
Mum had been an absolute trooper, staying up late to prove why she's a real life tetris champion by packing my bag. Three times. It didn't fit the frist time, the bag broke the second. Third time really is the charm. In the morning we lugged all my gear downstairs and hit the road for Sydney International Airport. I was excited when I reached the airport to see all the familiar faces. Although, my nerves were getting to me and mother's loving care got a little too much. Still, it was sad to leave them to head off own my own adventure. The most exciting part of checking was being randomly chosen to be checked for explosives. Obviously I must look shifty.

We were in economy class which, contray to popular belief is not that bad. The food was amazing and the inflight entertainment was good. The hardest part was trying to sleep on the second leg of the journey. Just when you got comfy they turned to cabin lights on again. Not to worry though, I did get plenty of sleep considering.

A tribute to globalisation
The first stop was Kuala Lumar. We didn't exit the terminal, but did take the time to grab a snack. I eventually found some nice ice cream and ate that as a snack. However, in order to honour the beautiful varied culture of Malaysia, I could not help but take a photo of another culutral food place.

After many gate changes and crossing what seemed like the entire of Malaysia International Airport's terminal we finally managed to get onto the plane for our second leg. It was uneventful, we slept and ate more delicious food.

Frankfurt to Berlin was far more exciting. Firstly, at check-in we were informed that our check-in luggage was to weight up to 20kg induvidually, we couldn't combine the weights like we had before. So we began the scramble and the cabnet reshuffle. My bag weighed 24kg but after shifting around clothing to carry-on and Alex's bag I reached 20kg exactly. After our entire delegation made it through check-in we proceeded onto our flight.

The view of Berlin as we come into landing. Isn't it gorgeous? A snow touched Berlin. Again, stunning.

So, now for some photos of wonderous Berlin. These were taking during our driving tour, so appologies for poor quality.

Oh, another Starbucks
Our tour guides are hillarious, kind and friendly. We went for a walk along the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall and looked at the art work. Some of it was truely brilliant. Tomorrow we look forward to tours of the city where hopefully I will get some better pictures of some of the amazing buildings that exist Berlin.
